We are a non-profit 501[c]3 which teams up with our “Rescue Partners” (local animal shelters, rescue organizations and humane societies) to increase adoption of homeless pets. Many perfectly great pets languish unseen & unnoticed in shelters and foster homes. Our objective is to expose our Rescue Partner’s adoptable animals to more people, and in a more positive atmosphere than they would ordinarily experience. Example venues for these Adoption Events include local festivals, retail stores, restaurants with patio seating, and special events.
What can hosting a “Ragtag” event do for you?
Generate drive-by interest: Our gooseneck trailer is 24’ overall. That alone causes passersby to take a second glance. Combine that with visitors seen looking into our awning display doors, and others just have to see what that’s all about! Over time we’ll be adding banners, pennants, lights and music. Of course, we can be as low-key as you’d prefer too. (At our first event, one family stopped in solely because they saw our trailer from the road. They ended up adopting a pet that had been in foster for 6 months!)
Leverage our marketing: Ragtag Rescue and our Rescue Partners need potential adopters to visit our Adoption Events. To that end, both organizations spread the word via their social media contact, flyers, posters, and radio spots if possible.
Demonstrate a commitment to improving your community. Your patrons will see that you are supporting charitable organizations, promoting the adoption of homeless animals, and being a corporate good-citizen.
Potential IRS tax savings: Because Ragtag Rescue is a tax-exempt non-profit 501c3 organization, not only are your cash donations deductible, so may the space and time offered to us for an event. Please consult your tax-advisor for understanding how this may benefit your situation.
How our program works:
Ragtag’s Mobile Adoption Unit is a 24’ gooseneck trailer with air conditioning and two large awning doors on the right side. As many as 25 adoptable pets remain behind Plexiglas, relaxing & basically being adorable. A motto of ours is: “Calm & comfortable animals are adoptable animals!”
At most of our Adoption Events, we have at least 3 volunteers and/or staff present. When a visitor expresses interest in a pet, we bring the animal out for a meet & greet. A typical event lasts 4 to 6 hours.
The size of our trailer & tow vehicle requires room: we need adequate space to pull in, park and exit. The space must be level and strong, as the combined vehicle weight is approximately 8 tons (16,000 lbs). For general planning purposes, the overall length of the unit will fill about 5 or 6 average parking spaces. In some cases, the closer to the street the better, for visibility. If other traffic to/from our “landing spot” will be a heavy, we may need the area roped off prior to arrival.
These pets require some downtime. This impacts our participation on multi-day events. While their environment in the trailer is quite “chill”, some animals need more frequent changes of scenery. All of them need their dinners & night time in their familiar “beds”. Because of this, we will need to depart each afternoon and return the following morning (often with more or different adoptables depending upon the prior day’s successes).
